Wire brushing lends itself well to a wide plank floor as the brushing process remove a very small amount of the softer parts of the natural oak grain. The resulting texture is soft and subtle, yet truly unforgettable. It helps hide everyday scratches and scuffs, but is shallow enough so as not to collect dirt and debris.

Durable Finishes

Oil finished floors are also very popular these days. These typically involve a Tung oil applied to the surface and left to soak into the wood. This prevents the wood from deteriorating naturally and provides a soft lustre to the surface of the floor. One of the advantages of an oiled floor is that you can touch up small areas by applying extra Tung oil and rubbing it into the surface. Unlike traditional varnished or urethane coated floors, the repaired area will blend seamlessly into the old finish.

Aluminum oxide finishes are also available and area good choice for high traffic floors or busy families. These floors have a urethane coating infused with microscopic aluminum oxide powder to provide excellent scuff resistance and long lasting durability. Aside from maintaining a household environment suitable for hardwood flooring, aluminum oxide finishes are essentially maintenance free.
