HOT FLOORING TRENDS FOR SUMMER 2017

Spring has finally sprung in Kelowna, and for a lot of people that means spring cleaning. It’s time to crack open the windows, tidy up the house and yard and take stock of your home. For many, it’s a time to consider making renovations. 2017 brings with it new flooring trends. Here are some of the top design trends heading into the summer season.

1. Cork

Cork has grown in popularity in recent years. It’s now well-known as an environmentally friendly option – it’s derived from the bark of the Cork Oak and can be harvested without harming the tree. Not only that, cork has several attractive qualities as a flooring material: It insulates from sound and noise, is easy to install, and extremely comfortable to walk on. In 2017, cork flooring comes in a wide variety of colours and textures.   Improve any space in your home with cork!

2. Hardwood

Classics never go out of style. There’s no match for the refinement and warmth that hardwood flooring brings to a space. While all types of hardwood flooring remain popular, specific looks and colours are especially popular this year. A recent trend is to use wide, long planks instead of the more common, thinner planks. It’s a classic, ‘farmhouse’ look. The hottest colours of 2017 are cool and dark. Grey, dark brown, and black hardwood flooring are all very popular right now.

3. Laminate and Vinyl Hardwood

In recent years, synthetic hardwood made from vinyl and laminate have become a great lower-cost alternative to true hardwood. The range of textures and colours available have never been better, and vinyl or laminate flooring is unrivalled in durability and ease of upkeep. As one of the most cost-effective flooring renovations available, look for laminate and vinyl hardwood to continue to grow and improve in the coming years.

4. Concrete/Industrial Style

For those who desire a more modern, minimalist look, treated concrete and natural stone are a growing trend in commercial spaces, restaurants, and even the home. It’s a great look for kitchens, foyers, and bathrooms. Concrete and stone are sophisticated and muted, with the added bonus of being easy to clean and maintain.
