Ceramic tile is made from finely ground clay and minerals pressed into the shape of the tile. Glaze is then applied to provide the color and texture. It is then fired to harden the tile and melt the glaze. Porcelain is also made from finely ground clay and minerals but with a much higher quality of feldspar minerals than clay. It is also pressed into shape but at a much higher pressures. This makes porcelain harder, stronger, and more wear resistant. That being said, a good quality ceramic tile in an interior residential application will last the life of the home if installed properly. We can guide you in the correct choice for your tile project.
